Dewey and education in the 21st century: fighting back (Emerald Publishing Ltd) is a collection of essays on John Dewey’s philosophy of education edited by Ruth Heilbronn, Christine Doddington and Rupert Higham, building on an international conference marking the centenary of Dewey’s Democracy and Education. ‘Fighting back’ relates to the editors’ view of the prevailing, current context of the aims and purposes of education as ‘technical rationalism’. The book is updated to the world of social media and the internet and represents a view of education for humanist not technicist aims.
