Workshop:  Dancing in the Dark – A Survivor’s Guide to the University by Annie Pirrie, Nini Fang & Elizabeth O’Brien

Workshop: 10.30 – 11.45 

Lunch: 12:00-13:00 (bring your own lunch and eat together with participants)

Informal research discussions: 13:00-14:00 (PhD students will have the opportunity to share their research project in pairs or small groups)

 

In the workshop, there will first be a short presentation from the Workshop Leads and Book authors Annie Pirrie and Elizabeth O-Brien on: Renewing generosity in the university: between shadows and light

Then, participants will be supported to discuss “insecurity, uncertainty, fears” around life in the university, and how to seek out pockets of community as sources of light and of shade, illumination and relief. Then, together, participants will consider “the heart work and art work” of a little blue book… Dancing in the Dark: A Survivor’s Guide to the University. is an illustrated pocketbook designed to keep those studying and working in universities in good heart. PhD students who come to the event are entitled to a free copy of the book. You can pick yours up at the seminar. (Please register in advance, so we have some idea of numbers.)
