Civic education in Poland, a philosophical assessment
Igor Czernecki (University of Warsaw)
As young liberal democracies in East-Central Europe face a structural and spiritual crisis, a renewed emphasis is being made on the role of civic education in re-invigorating our societies. This paper will assess the current state of civic education in Poland, including the recent reforms enacted by the right-wing government concerning the civic education programme in high schools, placing it in a broader context of the philosophical debate concerning the aims of education.
