Ever wondered what philosophy in schools is all about?  Join us for a day of inquiry, demonstration, performance and celebration.

Programme

10am – Tea and coffee

10.35am – Philosophical education for everyone: about SAPERE, our work and why we do it Grace Lockrobin, Director of Philosophy and Education, SAPERE
10.55am – Thinking and acting in schools: the work of Stan’s Cafe James Yarker, Artistic Director, Stan’s Cafe
11.15am – Open access research in the Journal of Philosophy in Schools Michael Hand, Professor of Philosophy of Education, University of Birmingham
11.30am – Overcoming stereotypes: an interactive workshop Lisa Bortolotti, Professor of Philosophy, University of Birmingham and creator of The Philosophy Garden
12.15pm – Lunch & Long Live the Kings, a photographic exhibition hosted by the pupils of Kings Rise Academy
1.30pm – What is art? A concept game Laura D’Olimpio, Associate Professor of Philosophy of Education, University of Birmingham
2.15pm Honesty is the best policy… or is it? A philosophical enquiry for Year 4 Grace Lockrobin, Director of Philosophy and Education, SAPERE
3pm – Tea and coffee
3.30pm – The chairness of a chair: a philosophy song cycle Year 4 pupils at Kings Rise Academy
4pm – Closing remarks
