Artificial Intelligence (AI), Education & Imagination
Eri Mountbatten-O’Malley, Bath Spa University
This presentation examines the philosophical challenges of integrating AI into education, focusing on imagination, cognitive flexibility, and conceptual insight. Drawing on analytic philosophy, particularly Wittgenstein’s insights on language and thought, I will suggest that AI risks narrowing imaginative engagement and undermining conceptual creativity. By contrasting machine-based processing with human reasoning, the analysis highlights tensions between the ease of technological utility and the cultivation of intellectual autonomy.
