Isabel Millar (Global Centre for Advanced Studies) with a response from the authors
A symposium on The Lacanian Teacher (2025) by Nick Stock and Nick Peim
Following the release of The Lacanian Teacher. Education, Pedagogy and Enjoyment (2025, Palgrave) by Nick Stock and Nick Peim, this seminar delves into the arguments made in the book. The authors will be in conversation with Isabel Millar, acclaimed philosopher and author of The Psychoanalysis of Artificial Intelligence (2021, Palgrave) and Patipolitics (2026, Bloomsbury). The conversation will explore questions of the teacher, their fantasmatic educational landscape, their enjoyment, and the repercussions for subjectivity, culture, and politics.
Isabel Millar is Professor of Philosophy and Psychoanalysis at the Global Centre for Advanced Studies. She is author of The Psychoanalysis of Artificial Intelligence (2021) and Patipolitics (2026).
Nick Stock is a British Academy Postdoctoral Researcher at Birmingham University. Having taught English for thirteen years, his research now draws on psychoanalytic theory and poststructuralist philosophy to explore unconscious desires and drives in teaching.
Nick Peim lectured in Education and researched in philosophy at Birmingham University. Recent publications include Rethinking the Politics of Education (2022) and A Critique of Pure Education (2024). He is currently writing a book on Catherine Malabou.
