Incorporating Place in The Community of Philosophical Enquiry
09.00-12.30
Placeless education reigns, to the detriment of both place and citizenship.
In this seminar we seek to re-imagine and re-place education; in doing so we must disrupt the immense momentum of the business-as-usual approach.
Simone Thornton invites us to look to Philosophy for Children as a vehicle for change, arguing that while its potential is great, there are several challenges it needs to address. Simone lectures in Philosophy, at the School of Humanities and Social Inquiry, University of Wollongong, and is an Honorary Research Fellow, at the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry, The University of Queensland. Her latest book ‘Eco-Rational Education: an educational response to environmental crisis’ will be published on 28th July 2023. https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/10.4324/9781003144489/eco- rational-education-simone-thornton
